What to do in Kathmandu?!

Namaste aunty.

Stupa in Thamel district.

Color shop

Sleeping on a chair deep and sound.

Nightlife

Street scene near Hannuman Dokha.

Spicy chillies sold in the night market.

Women by the fountain. Here in Nepal women are a bit more emancipated. You can see women working at shops alone, smoking cigarettes, young ones even wearing mini skirts. These things would be unheard of in India.

Quite water-tank somewhere downtown.

Hand painted image of the enlightened one trough a window-glass.

Durbar square; orgy of temples.

The historical town is a living museum. Here with a paparazzo at work.

Few years ago Kathmandu was the second most polluted city on the world. Since than the motor rickshaws are banned, but the situation is hardly any better. Here a young police girl is trying to hold it down.

Porters around here have it hard. The loads they carry sometime are just insane.

Buddhist leisure time.

Contrary to India, Nepalese do eat quite a lot of meat. After pure-veg' Varanasi, seeing these butcheries was a bit of a horror. So look at the shops and make the right choice...

The older buildings have extremely artistic woodwork on the doors and window frames. Some of them are looking on the people since the 12th century.

In Kathmandu there is life on the streets, but also another life on the rooftops of the buildings.

Do you want chow-mein? Milega bhai :-)

Calm vibe by a temple entrance.

This is the Hannuman dokha where the statue of the monkey god receives all kinds of offerings. As we can see even food offerings trough his mouth.

Bird-feeder on the street.

The city is located in the Kathmandu valley that used to be divided into three separate kingdoms before they unified them under the name Kathmandu. So one can find signs of all different eras. Some ancient, some really new.

Taking a little nap by one of the temples.

Well after leaving Hindustan, we arrived to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu. Over 50 percent of Nepal's population is still Hindu the other major religion being Buddhist so ganesh is still watching us from the shadows.
